Iterative sculpture — asphalt and detritus
(2022)

Through the use of contrast and strong lines, the artist draws the viewer’s eye. Asphalt from the sidewalk flows seamlessly from the sidewalk to the road, but draws a stark contrast as it runs over the rusting metal panels meant to guide the feet of pedestrians. The dark asphalt also contrasts against the light concrete, and keen-eyed viewers will notice a subtler seam, where two different asphalt patches join. It would be more expensive to replace concrete with concrete, to maintain the surface to its original state. Though the surfaces are uneven, they are hard, and good enough.
